Decorating with oranges

A little something different on the sideboard this Christmas.... Christmas decorations made from dried oranges.

Here are the instructions:

  • Cut an orange into evenly cut slices
  • Place on a tray in a low oven (65) for 3 hours.
  • Display with twine on freshly cut garden clippings.

I think they'll definitely be a conversation starter!

Horizontal Christmas Wreaths

Today I did some styling at my in-laws house.  It was a lot of fun sourcing sticks from around the fire pit.  My mother-in-law owns boxes of beautiful festive Christmas decorations, so naturally I lost track of time unpacking her collection.  We decided to create a modern looking Christmas wreath.  To make it we used:

  • A branch
  • Picture wire
  • A strand of berry decorations (found in a box of Christmas goodies)
  • Gum nuts

The result is a simple, elegant, festive design that took little to no effort!

Christmas Workshop

Today I attended a Christmas styling workshop at Toowong Village.  I was really inspired by their hanging Christmas wreath above their dining room table setting.  It's ALL about the layers!  The little Christmas trees were super cute too.

Christmas styling has begun

Its the most wonderful time of the year....

Playful stalking

Capturing everyday items in your house is somewhat rewarding.  It makes you stop, pause and reflect on how beautiful creation is.  It's the simple things like a bunch of flowers grown by a friend, that reflect the beauty all around us.

Hawthorne Styling

It's always a pleasure to help friends style their beautiful homes.  I love creating spaces that give clients the ability to express themselves.  Wall hooks are a great way to display everyday items and turn them into art!  Some bags and scarves have stunning prints on them.  Get them on your wall I say!  Have some fun.  Play around and watch an empty wall come to life again.

Brick Screens

Never underestimate the beloved brick.  I wonder if the client will accept?

Fixed Lens

Creative Dilemmas:  That feeling when all you want to do is grab your camera.

I arrived home from the school run and all I wanted to do was shoot the detail in these babies.  My 50mm fixed lens is perfect for capturing detail.

** Kita handmade polymer earrings were bought from Kindred Boutique, Everton Park.

Nundah

Oh Nundah.... If I had money in the budget to buy an investment property, it would be one of these units.  Due to be built on the corner of Bage and Westacott Streets (Nundah), these units are located in a prime position.  Boasting city views, these units are close to prestigious schools, a popular Westfields shopping centre and Brisbane airport.  Let's not forget all the funky bars and cafes nearby!  #Nundah

Contrasting Textures

I haven't seen the photos I took from last years Journie photoshoot since the day I took them.  This is mostly because the photos have been stored on my brothers' camera.  He's currently overseas so I decided to 'borrow' his enviable Canon EOS 7D to keep honing my skill.  I found this shot and must say I think it's one of my favourites.  I like the contrast of the textured trees against the models soft dress.  The moody greys work too.

Morning Fun

Here are some more fun photos from this weeks shoot.

Flat lay photography

Today I spent the morning experimenting with a marble tile and lots of beautiful fashion accessories.  What do you think?

Photoshoot May 2015

Last weekend I had the privilege of shooting the AnnaNova 2015 catalogue.  I only had 2 days to learn how to use the camera supplied.  Yikes!  I'm pretty pleased with the results... well, you can't really shoot a bad photograph of Kirra (the model).
